Why we love FAT!
There has been a steady rise of people becoming more and more aware that certain fats are of the utmost importance for optimal health. This is outstanding considering fat has been demonized for centuries! Although the word has been getting around that healthy fats are crucial for our human existence, there are still many out there that haven't yet discovered this valuable information.
We want to touch base on this subject because it has the potential to change your life. We must know that not all fats are created equal and not all kinds of fat make you fat! Think about it, what did our paleolithic ancestors eat when it wasn’t the time of year to forage for vegetation? They were hunting, for fat! This vital nutrient sustained them through winter (depending on the region). Healthy fats in the form of saturated and monounsaturated can pose many health benefits!
These types of fat include; animal fats, coconut, avocados, olive oil, nuts, and more! Our bodies, biologically, are designed to use these fats for fuel! They can improve our skin, act as an antioxidant, provide fuel and nourishment to our heart and brain, act as a transport for vital nutrients, make you feel full, longer (satiety), and more! Fats to be concerned about are found in highly processed foods and omega-6 rich oils such as canola, soy, safflower, fried foods, candy, etc...
*Fun Fact: Did you know our brains are made up of about 60% fat!? What do you think happens to our brain when we reform from eating fat? It is food for our brain!
Let's talk a little about calories! For many, that is the first (and sometimes the only) thing we look at on a nutrition label. It is important to know where your calories are coming from. As with anything, quality over quantity! Calories in the form of fat are NOT the same as calories in the form of processed junk food. Calories from fat can make you feel fuller, longer and keep you from getting spikes in blood sugar. Our bodies can actually burn more calories by eating this way!
